When the Empire State Building opened on May 1st, 1931, it was the tallest building in the world. Standing at 1,250 feet, the building towered over New York City. The building did not only become an icon of New York City, it also became a symbol of 20th century man's attempts to achieve the impossible. -

The St.Louis Cardinals came away with a huge upset over the highly favorable Philadelphia Athletics in a shocking seven game series. The Cards won game seven 4-2 to bring home their second World Series Championship. -

In it's first "sigting" ever, the Loch Ness monster was reportidly seen on May 2nd,1933 by a part-time journalis Alex Campbell. -
The Chesseburger is Created
Lionel Sternberger is said to be the inventor of the cheeseburger. A fast food item that millions upon millions eat each year or even day! Sternberger was working at his dad's shop at the age of 16 when he experimentally dropped a slab of cheese on a hamberger. -

On February 6th, 1935, "The Landlord's Game" called Monopoly was the basis of the game sold by Parker Brothers. -
Hoover Dam Completed
Hoover Dam took six different companies five years to build this ginormous dam in Las Vegas, Nevada. It cost about $49 million dollars in 1936 which would translate to roughly $860 million dollars today. -
The Hindenburg Disaster
The HIndenbrug Disaster brought an end to age of rigid airship. 35 people were killed on the airship and one member of the ground crew did not survive as well. 62 of the 97 passengers and crew survived this horrific event. -
Superman First Appears in Comic Books
April 18th 1938 was the first time that forever famous Superman comic book character was published and released to the public. The first run for the comic was in June and 200,000 copies were sold and priced at ten cents. The comic was an instant hit. In the next issue, 500,000 copies were sold globaly. -
Major Earthquake in Chile Kills 50,000
An 8.3 magnittude earthquake in central Chile killed 50,000 people as well as injuring 60,000. This earthquale occured just 33 years after another earthquake that left tens of thousands killed. -
Roosevelt is Elected to a Third Presidential Term
On November 5th, 1940, President Franklin Roosevelt was elected for the first and only third term in presidential history. The reason why Roosevelt wanted to become president for a third time is because the United States were about to enter Word War 2.
