there was a settlement already existing where Constantinople is but the origins were never known except that it was abandoned. That offered an advantage for a construction of the city. He knew its strategic importance because of the geography around it all the trade routes went through the city basically. -

Nika revolt
The revolt or riot lasted for a week and nearly half of Constantinople was burnt or destroyed and tens of thousands people were killed. This was all caused by two factions blue and green which corolated with chariot racing but Justine was going to put the two racers on trial for a murder but the people of the faction were very unhappy about this causing the revolt. -

He had a series of three campaigns. The first was against the vandals because of thier raids on the Roman trade route the campaign lasted about a year. It was hurting commence in the Western Europe. The second campaign was against the Ostrogoths and this resulted because he wanted to restore as much of the western empire as he could. This campaign lasted about twenty one years. The third campaign was to defend Constantinople beliserius was recalled because he was retired for some time. -

Early Islamic capaigns into the Byzantine empire
When the Muslim culture came about it swallowd the southern provinces of Byzantine eventually pushing them out of Africa. Mulsums repeatedly raided the Asia Minor and in the Mediterranean Sea. The Byzantines responded by raiding and ransacking on small islands and coastal settlements. Byzantines would not fight on the open field but instead defensively because they often retreated into their strongholds. -

Basil's campaign on Bulgaria
Basil had about 30,000 men in his position and they marched onto the city of Sofia which was owned by the Bulgarians. He was defeated at the battle of the gates of tarjan he learned from this loss and conducted his next capaign much differently. The seperation between Eastern Orthodox and the Catholic Churches. The first step in the seperation was emperor Michael ordered the closing of all Latin churches in Constantinople. They were given a choice change or be forcefully closed. The purpose in this was to avoid any attempt at conciliation. -

Emperor Alexius contacts Pope Urban II
Pope Urban II gave a speech that is considered the most influential speech of the Middle Ages. It called all Christians to go to war with Muslims and other religions for the holy land. Emperor Alexius contacts the pope for military support because he doesn't have the military streangth to fight off the invaders on his own. -

A armed expedition called by pope Innocent III. It was originally made to conquer Jerusalem because the it was under Muslim control. But instead the crusade ransacked Constantinople because they were promised aid in money and soilders but they fell short and as the crusade arrived they were given nothing so the crusade ransacked Constantinople for money. -

Fall of Constantinople
They were invaded by th Ottoman Empire which had around 50,000 troops and Constantinople only had about 7,000. There was 53 day siege on the city before the ottomans finally attacked. The final assault lasted for two days they first sent Christian troops followed by waves of other military forces. N
Because one was previously breached and had been repaired but not fully it was conifer end a weak spot so the ottomans breached that same spot. They couldnt hold off the ottomans and lost.
