    Yaroslav the wise

    Yaroslav the wise took the throne in 1019. He was the son Vladimir. Like his father he won military victories and spred the Christian religion. Also, he also connected the church and the state. In addition, he had religious texts translated into the Slavic language. He made a written law code and made many imprvements to the city.

    Golden Bull of 1222

    The Hungarian king was forced to sign a charter recognizing nobles' rights called the Golden Bull of 1222. It strictly limited royal power.

    Batu

    Batu was the grandson of Genghis, who led the Mongol armies into Russia. the army was known as the Golden Horde because of the color of their tents. Batu was king from 1227-1255 when he died.

    Black Death

    Deaths of an estimated 75 to 200 million people and peaking in Europe in the years 1348–50. Time period where people started dying in large sums.
  • Apr 22, 1380

    Battle of Kulikovo

    Moscow rallied soldiers and defeted the Golden Horde at the Battle of Kulikovo. Mongol power declined after the loss of the battle.

    Orthodox Church

    Ottoman Turks conquer Byzantium. Orthodox church of Russia splits from Byzantium.
  • Apr 5, 1462

    Ivan the Great

    In 1462 Ivan the Great took the throne. He brought most of northern Russia under his control. He recovered a lot of territory that fell into the hands of Lithuania. He sometimes refered to himself as tsar, which is the russian word for Ceasar. He later died in 1505.
  • Apr 22, 1547

    Ivan the Terrible

    First Russian ruler officially crowned tsar. He intoduced new laws that tied serfs onto their land. In about 1560 he became very unstable, didnt trust anyone, and started throwing violent fits of rage. He killed his own son and organized the oprichniki, which are agents of terror who enforced the tsar's will. He died in 1584 and introduced Russia to a ruler with complete control over everything.

    Russian Conquests

    easants went off to take control new lands. Nobles however recieved the land grants to the territories. The adventures increased the amount of land with agricultural and labor sources.
  • Russian Famine

    There was a famine in Russia taking place from 1601-1693. During this time temperatures fell below freezing, killing most of the crops, possibly caused by a volcanic eruption in Peru in 1600.
  • Rurik of Novgorod

    Claimed to be the beginning of Russia where Rurik prince of Varangian tribe began rule of Novgorod.
  • Cyril & Methodius: Greek Brothers Cyril & Methodius

    They were missionaries sent by Constantinople to expand Christianity. They adapted the Greek Bible so they could translate it to the Slavic languages.
  • Princess Olga of Kiev

    In 957 she converted to Byzantine Christianity. When her grandson Vladimir was king the religion spread stupendously.
  • Vladimir

    Vladimir
    In 980 Vladimir took the throne and converted to Byzantine Christianity. Then, he married the sister the sister of the Byzantine emperor. He made Byzantine Christianity the Rus' religion. Also, he alligned his empire politically and culturally with the Byzantine Empire.
  • Tang Dynasty

    an imperial dynasty of China preceded by the Sui dynasty and followed by the Five Dynasties and Ten Kingdoms period. It was founded by the Li family, who seized power during the decline and collapse of the Sui Empire.
