    Split between the Catholic and Orthodox Churches
    The split between the catholic and orthodox churches also known as the Great Schism started on 16 july 1054 and still is present in the modern day. However the cause for this event was because of multiple disagreements between the west(Ex Leo IX) and eastern churches( Ex Micheal Cerularius) leaders on several issues, including the authority of the papal and filioque clause of the Nicene creed (Social and Political problems).

    Iconoclasm
    Iconoclasm refers to the period (726-842AD) were the use of images or icons were opposed by religious and imperial authorities during the ecumenical Patriarchate and temporal hierarchy. There are many suggested reason's on why this happened but the most speculated one among all of them is that, the old testament prohibition against the images in the Ten Commandments or the possibility of Idolatry.

    Justinian's Rule

    Justinian's Rule
    Justinian reigned over Constantinople from 527-565 AD. During his reigned he had many successful launched project such as military campaigns that would help the Byzantines reclaim lost territory from the west and all over the Mediterranean, eventually encircling it. During his time he also suffered the Nika Riots, which essentially were Justinian's own people revolting againts him because they didn't like the public policies enacted by Justinian. He executed them all at the Hippodrome.

    Founding of Constantinople

    Founding of Constantinople
    In 330 AD, Constantine created or established the city. Constantinople that would eventually make it's mark in the ancient world. It was the capital of the Eastern Roman Empire and would continue to be so through the Latin and Ottoman Empire. During its time it also became known or called as the Queen of Cities, Istinpolin, Stamboul and Instanbul. It would be governed by Roman, observe christinaity and adopt Greek as their primary language.

    Under the lead of Sassanid Persia( Byzantium's greatest rival), the Arabs lead a series of relentless invasion's on the Byzantine empire that well over l asted around 400 years (780-1180). However the invasions soon stopped as the Muslim/Turkish leader Al-Muthanna ibn Haritha conquered the Arabians, nonetheles they suffered heavy losses in territory and the turks soon started their own relentless seigs on them as well.

    Crisis and Fragmentation

    The crisis and fragmentation was a period of difficulties that were caused majorly because theme system(land would be granted to farmers and in return they would get loyal soldiers to the empire) and the military as well. The capital of calabria was captured by Robert Guiscard, followed by Otranto in 1068.
