Asian American History -- Naturalization Process
The Naturalization Act of 1870 outlined the process by which immigrants were to become citizens of the United States. This law also only allowed those of "African decent" and white immigrants to apply and be naturalized in the United States. This law effectively banned Asian Americans and Native Americans from becoming naturalized citizens. -

Immigration during the Roaring Twenties was at al all-time high. Hundreds of thousands of immigrants were coming into the United States yearly; however, once the Great Depression hit, and it hit hard, immigration dropped to an all-time low because nobody wanted to come to a country that was struggling to survive.
