Buddha preaches his first sermon at Sarnath. During his sermon a definitive text for all Buddhists was created. He proposes a path to enlightenment. He stated that enlightenment can be achieved by understanding Four Noble Truths which can be avoided by an Eightfold path ('HISTORY OF BUDDHISM"). -

The Eigthfold Path encourages the Buddhist to live a virtuous life by following the correct course of actions in eight contexts ("HISTORY OF BUDDHISM"). -

An Ascetic life c. 430
Gautama follows an ascetic life for six years before deciding that a middle path between mortification and indulgence of the body will provide the best hope of achieving enlightenment ("HISTORY OF BUDDHISM"). Asceticism is the abstinence from "worldy' pleasures in order to pursue spiritual goals ( "Asceticism").This shows that Buddha is on the road to develop the beliefs of Buddhism. -

Gautama began being to mediate until he sees the light of truth, while sitting under a pipal tree at Buddh Gaya, a village in Bihar. Like many other religious leaders Gautama begins to gather disciples. He is known to his followers as Buddha or "enlightened one" ("HISTORY OF BUDDHISM"). -

The four sights 534 BCE
Prince Siddartha goes outside into the "Real World" from his sheltered palace and discovers The Four Sights: an old man, an ill man, a dead man and a holy man. The holy man is what inspired Prince Siddartha by the holy mans actions of giving up his wealth. Prince Siddartha leaves his house with three ascetics and embarks on a journey to become a religious teacher ("Timeline of Buddhism"). -

Buddha gets married at age sixteen in Kapilavastu ("Timeline of Buddhism"). -

Birth- c. 563 BCE
Born Siddhartha Gautama (Buddha) in Lumbini into a leading royal family in the republic of Shakyas ("Timeline of Buddhism"). Buddha was born into "power" from birth. -

The cult of Amida, also named "Pure Land" Buddhism is one of the several new sects in Japan, it was based on a sutra in which Amida who achieved enlightenment from Buddha ('HISTORY OF BUDDHISM") -

Monks Boycott
Over 7000 buddhist monks boycotted the military in Mandalay, Burma. The monks refused to accept alms from the military or perform services. The monks face long-time imprisonment and tortured during interrogation ("Timeline of Buddhism"). This shows how strong Buddha's followers were into the Buddhist faith by going through so much to protect their religion. -
The Buddha Statue of Hyberabad- 1992
Created by the former Chief Minister of Andhra and was llater consecrated by the Dalai Lama ("Timeline of Buddhism"). Shows how Buddha had a great influence to have earned a 16 meter-tall statue that weighed nearly 350 ton. -

("HISTORY OF BUDDHISM") The Four Noble Truths are practiced by the buddhist each day it is the basic foundation of their religion. -
Printed texts in China c.868 BCE
Discovered in a cave at Dubhaung in 1899, it was a scroll 16 feet long and 1 foot high. Dunhuang contains many Buddhist paintings on silk. -
Giri-hadu-saya- 528 BCE
After recieving enlightment Buddha was offered his first meal and in return Buddha gave eight strands of his own hair to the two brothers, who took the strands Sri Lanka. The pagoda is callled "Giri-hadu-saya" and it has been renovated and enlarged several times by various kings of Sri Lanka ("Timeline of Buddhism"). -
Death of Buddha 483 BCE
Buddha dies in Kushinagar, India ("LIFE OF BUDDHA"). -
