Pre-Colonization
This is the time period in which the country of Brunei had the whole island of Borneo and they had some land in the Philippians. This would come to end shortly after the 1600's when the British started to take some of there land and then the Sultanate started giving land in exchange for protection. -

Pre-Colonization
There is not much know about Brunei before the British discovered the country, but when they discovered this country is was pretty big find. When the British arrived the government was an Islamic Monarchy with a sultanate. -
Colonization
The United Kingdom made Brunei become a protectorate in 1888. A British protectorate. Being a British Protectorate means that basically Britain owns you but you can do whatever you want but if Britain doesn't like it, they can change it whenever they want. -
Period: to
Japan Invades
Japan invaded Brunei during WWII. This means that the British will have to protect them and fight for them. Japan did this because Japan was trying to take over whatever was close to them during the war. -
Brunei's Constitution
1959 still under British rule, they write their constitution. -
Brunei's Independence
Got its independence from Britain in 1984. There relationship with Britain is still good. They have around 2,000 people from Brunei studying in Great Britain. Also Great Britain is still defending Brunei from invasions because the queen owns the land.
