    Brown vs board of education
    Oliver Brown and Linda brown were involved. This took place in Topeka, Kansas. What happened was that naacp combined 5 cases into 1, to go to the Supreme Court. The Court decided 9-0, that separate but equal was wrong. However, Linda never went to a desegregated school. Many schools closed until 1964.
  • Murder Of Emmet Till

    Murder Of Emmet Till
    Ray and Gordon Bryantt were involved in this situation. This event took place in Money, Mississippi. What happened was that Emmett Till was accused of whistling at a white woman. 3 days later Ray Bryantt and others had kidnapped young Emmett and once his mother seen his body she wanted the world to see what was done to her little boy. His eyes were detached, ears cut off, a barbwire around his neck and a 75lbs metal fan that weighed him underneath the water.
  • Rosa Parks And The Bus Boycott

    Rosa Parks And The Bus Boycott
    Rosa Parks and Martin Luther King Jr were involved in this situation that took place in Montgomery Alabama. What happened during this time period is that Rosa had been arrested for failing to move seats on the bus so she was fined $10. MLKJ and many churches sent out flyers to the Boycott system on December 5th. The buses ran empty for 381 days and Supreme Court buses had to let blacks ride.

    Southern Christian Leadership Conference
    The people who were involved during this time period was MLKJ and 60 pastors. This took place in Atlanta Georgia. What happened during this situation was that a meeting of black church pastors to coordinate events for black people. MLKJ was elected the first president. This group used a non violent strategy. This group also registered blacks to vote, to Vietnam war and provide better jobs for blacks,
  • Little Rock 9

    Little Rock 9
    NAACP and 9 black students were involved during the Little Rock 9 event. This took place in Little Rock, Arkansas. 9 students wanted to go to the white school. The governor of Arkansas called out the National Guard to stop them. President Eisenhower calls in 1,200 military men to escort these from home to class. 1959 all got fully integrated.
  • Greensboro Sit Ins

    Greensboro Sit Ins
    The people involved with the Greensboro situation were 4 college students. This all took place in Greensboro, North Carolina. 60 to Wordsworth’s went to buy items and then sat at the lunch counter. They all refused service and to leave so they stayed. Day after day they came back and did the same things. The amount of students grew over the days to 1,000.
  • Freedom Riders.

    Freedom Riders.
    436 individuals were involved in 60 separate freedom rides. This took place in Washington D.C in the Deep South to desegregate bus stations, diners, and hotels. What happened was a group of volunteers from 39 states(39 were in college) arrived in Anniston, Alabama blocked by KKK. Tires slashed, fire bombed, buses burned, and beatings town after town.

    This took place in Washington DC. What happened during this time period 250,000 people marched in Washington DC. It was a peaceful and respectful protest for jobs and freedom. Martin Luther King Jr gave his “I have a dream” speech. MLK was the best speaker of the day.

    This took place on July 2, 1964 In Washington. Lyndon B Johnson and MLKJ were involved during this time period. Enabled the federal government to prevent racist discrimination and segregation based on race, color, religion or national origin in the private businesses or public facilities.
  • Voting rights act

    This event took place in 1965 at Audubon Ballroom New York. What happened was that civil rights leader who was part of the Nation of Islam. He wanted black people to believe in themselves and start their own businesses. He was shot 21 times. Thomas Hagan convicted of killing.

    This happened on March 7th, 1965 in Selma Alabama. Only 600 marchers and John Lewis were involved during this event. Black marchers wanted to walk 54 miles to Montgomery and the Edmond bridge troopers beat them

    This event happened on august 6 1965. LBJ was involved in this time period. This took pace in Washington DC. What happened was that ending the right to vote off African Americans any discrimination in voting. Now a federal matter not state.
  • Assassination of Martin Luther King Jr

    Assassination of Martin Luther King Jr
    This happened on April 4, 1968. Taking place in Lorraine motel Memphis Tennessee. What happened during this time period was a striking sanitation workers protest in Memphis. Went back to motel. Shot lower right side of his face with Remington rifle. James Earl ray sentenced to 19 years. His death marks the end of the civil rights move.
