It was a Supreme Court case to end segregation. 9-0 decision or unanimous. After the decision was made, videnceand riots broke out, with some schools closing. -
Emmet till
A 14 year old boy from Chicago. He went to Mississippi to visit family. He was then accused of whistling at a white lady. The white lady’s family made him carry a 75 pound cotton gin and beat him to death. He was accused of whistling at her inside of a store. -
Rosa parks and bus boycott
Rosa park refused to move seats in the bus and she was then arrested. -
SCLC
The SCLC was boycotts, marches and other forms of nonviolent protests and was for by the black community. -
Little Rock 9
Testing brown v board of education. 9 students were voted to undergo the test. -
Greensboro 4
4 college students sat down at the lunch counter at wodworths to be served. They were refused service. -
Student nonviolent coordinating committe
The student nonviolent committe was to direct actions against segregation and other ways of racism. -
Civil rights act of 1964
Forbids employees and labor unions to discriminate against any person on grounds of race color, religion, sex and physical disability. -
March on Selma/Bloody Sunday
Local police used whips and tear gas to attack hundreds of civil rights activists beginning a march from Selma Alabama to the state of capitol Montgomery. -
Voting rights act of 1965
One of the most comprehensive pieces of legislation in US history. Blacks were registering to vote and being elected public office.
