King James the First sent a personal envoy to speak with the Mogul Emperor Jahangir. Having been able to gain the respect of the Emperor, Sir Thomas Roe established the British East India Company in India. -

Mogul Empire at the Peak
The previous rulers son Shah Jahan was a extremely powerful leader who greatly expanded the Mogul Empire. Jahan was the ruler who made Islam the official religion of India. He also built the Taj Mahal for his wife. -
East India Company Gains Control
By 1720 the Mogul Empire had almost completely fallen and The British East India company had comprised an army of British and Indian soldiers called sepoys. They began winning military battles with Indian company's taking control of Indian states. -
Sepoy Rebellion
The Indian soldiers rised up against the other british soldiers because new gun catridges were oiled with cow and pig fat. Because of the cow and pig neither Hindus or Muslims would use the guns and were enraged so they begin a mutiny against the British. -
Divide and Rule
In 1905 the British government divided the Muslim and Hindu population and pitted them against each other. And there were many protests against the British government. -

During World War 1 the new leader of the Indian rights was Ghandi he led many protests peacefully he led many followers against British rule until it finally ended on August 15, 1947.
