British gov. Tax acts.

  • Navigation Acts

    The navigation act restricted colonists from trading and they also felt that they were wasting their money all on taxes. As a response they were very sneaky and continued to trade.
  • Sugar Act

    This was when the British raised the cost of business and local industry. The colonists responded to this by protesting heavily and boycotted all luxury goods from england.
  • Stamp act

    Taxes were added to all paper goods to help pay the soldiers down in the colonies. The colonists threw riots about this and would tar and father all tax collectors.
  • Quartering act

    This was when Britain forced colonists to provide food, shelter, and water to the soldiers deployed there to watch the colonists. The colonists then protested because they were mad they were paying taxes for provisions of the English army.
  • Declaratory act

    This was when the British repealed the stamp act but they wanted to make sure the colonists knew who was in charge and created this act to better secure the Dependacy.
  • Townshend Acts

    Taxes added to Lead, paint, glass, and tea. This made the colonists so mad and eventually lead to the Boston tea party.
  • Tea act

    This was when Britain shipped tea down to the colonies but the colonists refused to give England anymore money after all the taxes so they refused to by British tea and only drank Dutch tea.
  • Coercive Act

    This was when Britain closed the Boston port until the colonists paid back England for all the tea from the Boston tea party. This was to punish the colonists but the colonists viewed this act as one of the intolerable acts.
  • Quebec Act

    This was when Canada replaced their whole government during the time of the proclamation and it gave the people complete religious freedom. This proved to the colonists that British were not afraid to restrict colonial government.
