  • Declaration Act

A series of measures that taxed goods imported to the American colonies. Tax on paper, lead, glass, tea, and paint. Colonists boycotted.

Colonists gather and taunt British soldiers. The soldiers fired on the colonists. 5 people died. Citizens used the incident to incite colonists against the British.
  • Tea Act

England sends a surplus of cheap tea to the colonies, which technically made tea cheaper. Colonists did not like this and were sick of the new taxes.
  • Boston Tea Party

Colonists dumped 4 million dollars worth of tea into Boston Harbor.
  • Intolerable Acts

This act was supposed to punish the Massachusetts colonies for their defiance in the Tea Party protest. Closed the port of Boston until the tea was paid for.
  • 1st Continental Congress

12 of the 13 colonies gathered to discuss a response to the Intolerable Acts. Decided to boycott and meet again a year later.
