Britain's acts after the 7 years war

  • Currency act

    Currency act
The currency act was passed as a solution to the growing concern of the British over the new currency system being created in America. Although the new currency's being issued were not stable and had very high inflation rates the colonists were outraged when the British took away their right to create such currency's with the currency act. The British believed that they had created it for the betterment of the colonies but the colonists opposed the meddling of the British in their freedoms.
  • The stamp act

    The stamp act
The stamp act was passed by the parliament on march 27, 1765. The stamp act imposed a tax on all paper documents in the colonies and exempted smugglers of trial by jury in the colonies. This outraged the colonists who did not believe that they were the ones who had to pay for the 7 years war. Britain was feed up with the colonies unwillingness to pay for the war which is why they created this law.
  • Townshend act

    Townshend act
The Townshend acts were a series of taxes for many items coming to the colonies from Britain like glass, tea, paint and so on. This again like the stamp act before it enraged the colonists who thought the act was unfair. Britain enacted this act to help raise money to pay off its debts from the war.
  • Tea act

    Tea act
This was yet another act imposed by the government upon the colonies in the years following the French and Indian war. The act was not to earn the government money this time though, it was to bail out the struggling east India company by granting them a tea monopoly over the colonies. Due to this the colonists again were angry. They were even so mad as to board the ships of the east India company and throw their tea overboard. This lead the the British cracking down on the colonies even more.
  • The coercive acts(intolerable acts)

    The coercive acts(intolerable acts)
The coercive acts, better known as the intolerable acts were passed by the British parliament in response to the increasing antics of the colonists over in the new world. The final straw was the Boston tea party. The intolerable acts shut down the Boston harbor until the owners of the dumped tea were payed in full, they banned town meetings, and they increased the power of the governor. This sent the colonists into a rage! These acts meant to calm the colonists would lead the the revolution.
