Racial Issues in Brazil
Brazil was one of the last countries to abolish slavery. The only good thing that came out of slavery was diversity.Racism plays a huge role in how people get jobs and how people are treated. In a survey in 2000, out of 1,172 people 62% of people said that there is a racial problem.

Grupo Gay da Bahia
Founded by by Luiz Mott, in Salvador, Bahia. The purpose of this group is to defened the rights of LGBT and for them to have full citizenship. Also to spread awareness about the great number of LGBT and to get people to help fight for thier rights. Another objective was to spread accurate information about LGBT community. This is the oldest group fighthing for civil rights for LGBT

In the 5th article of Brazil's Constitution, Law prohibits discriminaton based on gender in jobs and in pay, but women were still often paid less. ** -
LGBT Marriage
In 1995 a bill was proposed in National Congress of Brazil to change federal law and allow the recognition of same-sex Marriage, but it was strongly opposed.As of January 2009, the bill was not voted on.

Gay Parades
The point of these parades are to build self-esteem of the homossexuals and sensibilise the society towards the tolerance with differences. Parades still go on today and have a huge turn out, with as many as 1.5 milliion people.

on this date the city council of Niteroi, passed a law not allowing discrimination based on sexual orientation in public places, schools and in businesses. -
Slave and Labor Exploitation
in 2003 the United Nations International Labor Organization estimated there were about 25,000 - 40,000 Brazilians working under "Slave Conditions"

the Grupo Gay da Bahia showed a list with 159 people from the LGBT were murdered. ** -
Domestic Violence
Brazilian President Luiz de Silva signed a law against domestic and family violence. -
Torture
Tortue techniches were used by prision guards and by police officers. The government reconigzined that torture was going on in the country. Brazil took part in the National Plan for the Prevention and Control of Torture. This set up cameras in prisons and it proved those gulity of torture and those innocent.

Afro-Brazilians (darker-skinned) were faced with discrimination. A law was rexently passed about protecting culture. ** -
Poverty
Brazil has about 36 million people living in rural area, and of these 36 million 18 million are poor. One of the main causes of poverty in Brazil is the poor land. Also the lack to education and traning skills.

Prisoner Violence
Prisions in Brazil were overcrowded and unhealthy. There were alot of prision rapes that took place along with beathings and torture. In 2007 a case about a gang prison rape brought mediea attention. According to the National penitentiary Department, in June there were 392,279 prisoners incarcerated.

One of the candidates for city council of Salvador, Bahia, that won the seat, was Leo Kret, a transvestite club dancer. When she took office, she defied the dress code.she insisted on wearing womens clothes and using the womens bathroom. She received 12,861 votes by the Republican Party.

In 2009 only 9% of the seats in the national parliament were filled by women.

In a survey it shows that by the agge of 18, 95% of homosexual youth in Brazil had already revealed it. In 1980 homosexuality was normaly revealed when they were older then 21. ** -

There is no law that forbids LGBT from entering the army. But it could be hard for them to get in to the police force or the army because of their sexual preference.
