During the Civil War, Bragg trained soldiers in the Gulf Coast region. He was a corps commander at the Battle of Shiloh and subsequently was named to command the Army of Mississippi. -

Bragg served in the Second Seminole War in Florida. At first he was just an assistant commissary officer and regimental adjutant. He did not see any action. Later he became a company commander in the 3rd Artillery and commanded Fort Marion. -

Governor Thomas O. Moore appointed Bragg to the state military board. -

Thomas Moore appointed Bragg as commander of the state army. He commanded the forces around New Orleans until April 16. -
Chattanooga
Bragg was worried about a northern battle in Knoxville which gave Rosecrans enough time to attack him from the left and Bragg realized that he wasn't going to be able to stand any longer there. On Sept. 8 him and his troops evacuated Chattanooga.
