The Director explains how the World State works to his students and then Henry Foster talks about the way that they clone and set people into a caste -
Bernard and Lenina talk about being with everyone but with different people. Lenina talks to Fanny and Bernard is mad in an elevator that no one stays with anyone, they all switch lovers. -
They go on a date and Lenina doesn't like what Bernard does so he gives in and takes soma and sleeps with her. Bernard hears about how the director went to the reservation. -
Bernard and Lenina go to the reservation. They meet John and Linda. Bernard figures out that Linda is the girl in the director's story. -
John meets Lenina and she becomes a Juliet like figure to him (from Shakespeare). -
Bernard takes John and Linda back to civilization. The director gets humiliated in front of lots of people. Bernard gets really popular and super prideful. -
Linda begins her permanent soma holiday. -
John tells Lenina that he loves her and she undresses, he gets super freaked out and tells her to go away.

John gets a call that Linda is dying. He sits with her as she dies and then all the irritating Deltas making rude comments about his mother make him really mad.

Mond tells Bernard and Helmholtz that they will be exiled to some island. John tells of his disgust with the civilized world and Mustapha explains a lot about Shakespeare and happiness. John asks to go to an island but Mond says he can't so John goes to an abandoned lighthouse. -
At his lighthouse John starts planting a garden and whipping himself whenever he thinks something wrong. Crowds come to see the spectacle and one day John freaks out, has enough, and then hangs himself.
