Bloor studied in philosophy and mathematics later becoming a sociologist and a professor in Science Studies at the University of Edinburgh. -
"Knowledge and Social Imagery"
1976 Bloor authored and published his first edition of his book "knowledge and Social Imagery". The book had three major goals, to describe the strong program in sociology of knowledge, to explore prior arguments, and to bring the arguments to the surface allowing for new discoveries. -
1996 "Scientific Knowledge: A Sociological Analysis"
The book "Scientific Knowledge: A Sociological Analysis" was authored by Barry Barnes, John Henry, and Bloor. The book talked about how the culture surrounding science can influence it and started what is now known as social studies of science. Their study used case studies from different sciences including cognitive, physics, and biology. -
1997 "Wittgenstein, Rules and Institutions."
Written by Bloor about Wittgenstein's thought on rules and rule following. Wittgenstein's writings argued the assumption that practice is indirectly influenced by rules and language used by the person conducting. That the tests and theories being used need to be alert of the influence and find alternative ways to test without these influences. Bloor went on to write about Wittgenstein's writings and further explaining in his own words. -
