Michael King Jr, better known as Martin Luther King, was born in Atlanta,Georgia on January the 15th, 1929 in his grandparents house.He was the second child to reverend Martin Luther King Sr, a Baptist pastor,missionary and was a part of the American civil rights movement, and Alberta Williams King who was a school teacher and also a pastor at the Ebenezer Baptist Church in Atlanta,Georgia. -

Martin Luther King wrote a letter called “Kick up Dust” to the Atlanta Constitution expressing his feelings about how black people should be entitled to the basic rights and opportunities of a normal American citizen especially after some racially motivated murders were responsible for the murder of two black couples in Walton County,Georgia. -
Martin Luther King is Ordained
Martin Luther King had given a trial sermon at the age of 19 to the congregation of the Ebenezer Baptist Church.Soon after,the congregation of Ebenezer voted for Martin Luther King to be a minister in the church and he was ordained and given the role of an assistant pastor in the Ebenezer Baptist Church in Atlanta.King served as a minister during his breaks from his doctoral studies at Boston University and Crozer Theological Seminary. -

Martin Luther King later attended Morehouse College in Atlanta which was targeted at male slaves to teach and become ministers.During his time at Morehouse,Martin Luther King was president of the sociology club,he was a member of the debating team,a member of the student council,he joined the National Association for the advancement of coloured people and had come second place in the John L Webb oratorical competition. -
Martin Luther King attends Crozer Theological Seminary
After graduating and successfully earning a degree of bachelor Arts in sociology,Martin Luther King decided that he wanted to head in a completely new direction and so he entered Crozer Theological Seminary in Chester,Pensylvania.He challenged himself to become more open and committed to the Christian social group.He was inspired by the thoughts and ideas of the Indian leader Mohandas K Ghandi,and developed a stronger belief in the idea of pacifism. -

Martin Luther King went to Boston university in search of a multicultural community in which he could study ethics and philosophy.During his time in Boston,he was captivated by the idea of personalism highlighting the religious experiences in understanding God.He expanded his studies on the history of philosophy and through some of the countrys leading personalist theologians Edgar S Brightman and L Harold DeWolf,King refined his concept on personalism. -
Martin Luther King marries Coretta Scott
At 24 years of age,Martin Luther King married a woman named Coretta Scott who was a former music student from Heiberger,Alabama.Their wedding took place at Coretta’s parent’s house in Marion, Alabama where the ceremony was performed by Martin Luther King's father.They both met after Martin Luther King had seen Coretta in Boston and asked a friend from Atlanta,Mary Powell to help him find a woman.Shortly after, Mary introduced King to Coretta Scott. -
Martin Luther King is assigned as Pastor
Martin Luther King became the 20th pastor at the Dexter Avenue Baptist Church in Montgomery Alabama.As the pastor,King found that he had gained a national civil rights leadership role and openly encouraged the congregation to take part in resolving the social and civic problems.King organised a Social and Political Action Committee in the Dexter Baptist Church to ensure that the congregation was informed on political and economic issues. -
Montgomery Improvement Association:When King became famous
Martin Luther King was elected the president of the Montgomery Improvement Association which was an organisation formed by black ministers and community leaders in Montogmery,Alabama. It was an organisation aimed to stop the discriminative acts of society as there was a national struggle for civil rights.The Montgomery Improvement Association was established a few days after the December 1955 arrest of Rosa Parks,who was a black Montgomery woman that refused to give her seat on a bus.
