    Edwin Havens was born in Stafford New York on may 25 1842

    In the morning Havens got up to see hundreds of enemy soldiers captured. Most of them were wounded. They were all captured the day before and brought into the Union camp.

    This was the day that Havens in enlisted in the military for the Seventh Michigan Calvary Regiment as a Seargent when he was 20 years old and served in the Civil War. He was enlisted in the army for the Union.

    Edwin started training at military camps such as Camp Kellogg, Grand Rapids. The other men at this camp went through basic training.

    His Regiment was sent to Washington D.C. and was later involved in campaingns at Gettysburg, Richmond, Petersburg, and Shenandoah Vallley

    A corporal from Company F was wounded after each side was firering artillery shots at one another. Two otherr soldiers ran and went to help him. The rest of Havens men held their position unil ordered to move up. Everything went well until they were close in range with the enemy. The rest of them pushed into their lines.

    A first and second division started a raid on a Confederate fort and later met with the 2nd corps. They attacked the enemy soldiers at Malvern Hill. The Union soldiers cleared the fort which had four heavy seige guns in it. Havens men were also assisted by gun boats in order to help capture the forts.

    Havens and his men are at Harpers Ferry awaiting orders to move. Later the next day they were ordered to move near Charelstown where John Brown was tried and executed for his attack on Harpers Ferry. Havens described Charelstown as being a very large and beutiful village.

    The Union soldiers arrived at Winchester. They learned some things that happened during battle on monday. Their Lt Col Powers was wounded in the head. Their Corporal Dumphery was hurt and died by a peice of shell. A Sgt Stout and a new recruit were both killed. These were all men from Havens division. Havens was tired but got out with minor scratches.

    Civil War ends
    Havens was thinking to himself that the war was going to end soon. He wanted to go home and be with his family. At one of his final battles they had to push into enemy lines. After several hours of fighting Havens men out numbered the enemy and secured the area. They later returned to camp.
