Huey Newton and Bobby Seale wrote their first draft of their 10 point plan for The Black Panther Party for Self Protection (BPP). -
Denzil Dowell
The BPP answered the Dowell family's cry for help against police harassment, the response from police officials was shooting and ultimately killing an unarmed Denzil Dowell. Later, April 25th of the same year, the BPP distributed their first mimeograph on Dowell's homicide. -
MLK
Martin Luther King jr. assassinated. BPP helps calm down the crowds. The age of peaceful protest is over with King's death. -
Free Breakfast for Children Program
Seale recognized children would have trgouble learning on an unavoidable empty stomach so he decided to set up a free breakfast program as a church in oakland. Children would be served breakfast paid for by donations before heading off to school. One year over 10,000 free breakfasts were served. -
Free Huey
The efforts of hundreds of thousands of whites and blacks combined allowed BPP co-founder Huey Seale to escape from a truthful conviction of first dgree murder unscathed. -
Intercommunal Youth Institute
The first class of the BPP's school gratuated, sucessfully completely point 5 in the original 10-point plan, give African-Americans their right to education. In 1977, the governor awarded the school with highest set of academic standards for an elemtary school, topping white schools in California.
