Nat Turner's rebelion
Nat Turner and a group of followers launch a short, bloody rebelion in Southhampton county Virginia. The militia quells the rebelion and hangs Nat Turner. Slave laws become much stricter as a result. -

John Brown
John Brown and 21 of his followers attempt to take control of the federal arsenal at Harper's Ferry. They fail and Brown is hung. -
