The Battle at San Jacinto takes place
During Texas’ war for independence from Mexico, the Texas army launched a surprise attack against the forces of Mexican General Santa Anna, at the Battle of San Jacinto, near present-day Houston, Texas. Hundreds of Mexicans were taken prisoner, including Santa Anna. Lamar sends troops on Santa Fe expedition
The main goal of the expedition was to provide the Republic of Texas with trading partners in Mexico and the United States by trading along the Santa Fe Trail. Mier expedition takes place
The Mier Expedition was considered the most disastrous of all of the border disputes between Texas and Mexico during the days of the Republic.
