After the War ended, many people were going on strikes. On May 1 1919, A socialist leader led people through Clevland, Ohio. There were many assasinations and death, along with people going on strike. Many arrests were made, and many people died at this awful date in time.

He saw a future of the end of poverty in America. A year after his election, the stock market crashed, and the nation's economy slipped downward into the Great Depression
