Lina and her family have been taken by the NKVD

Lina, Jonas, and Andrius find Papa and he gives them ham and his wedding band

All of the people that were taken are placed in a village where they face the upcoming winter

Nov 20, 1941

Andrius and his mother are being forced to work with the NKVD

Nov 27, 1941

The NKVD try to force the people to sign for 25 years of labor

Dec 25, 1941

It is Christmas, Jonas gets scurvy, and Lina and their mother are giving portions of their rations to Jonas.

Event 7

Jan 26, 1942

Lina finds out that some people are being moved out of the village and her whole family is on the list.

Event 8

Mar 30, 1942

Lina's family, Mrs. Rimas, and a bunch of other people are being sent close to the North Pole, and must survive the polar night.

Event 9

Apr 13, 1942

Mother dies of starvation and freezing temperatures and Nikolai Kretzky calls for help just in time as Jonas gets sick.

Event 10

Jul 19, 1968

Lina reunites with her two loves, Andrius and Lithuania, where she continues to draw and buries a letter telling her story (These dates are not exact, as there are none in the book).
