Berlin was divided among the four nations that fought in WWII and was then bring ruled two different ways. -
Interzonepass
People had to get a required 30 day valid interzonepass to travel between the sectors of Germany. -

Currency reform, supplying money and financing an economy using a different money system, caused Berlin to be split into two different currency zones. -
Berlin Blockade
The Soviet union blocked access to the sectors of Berlin controlled by the Western Allies. -
Berlin Airlift
Western Allies flew supplies to west Berlin flying 8,893 tons of necessities a day. -
End of the Berlin Blockade
The Soviet Union lifted the Berlin Blockade after realizing that the Allies were flying in more cargo then they were previously bring in by railway. -
Federal Republic of Germany (West Germany)
Established as a separate, independent nation that marked the effective end of any discussion to reunite west and east Germany. -
German Democratic Republic (East Germany)
Established as a separate, independent nation which also marked an even more effective end to any discussion reuniting west and east Germany. -
Borders
The border between East and West Germany is closer along with the border between East Germany and West Berlin. the border between East and West Berlin is the only border still open. -
Uprising and Suppression
the uprising of East Berlin workers against the imposition of increased norms caused the Red Army tanks to come in and suppress them. -
Waive of the Interzonepass
Western Powers waived the Interzonepass and soon after the Soviet Union waived it to but East German citizens still needed permission to travel to West Germany -
Sectorial Border
Barriers are built along the sectorial border between East and West Berlin closing access to either side. This was when the Berlin wall was erected. -
Brandenburg Gate closed
The Brandenburg wall was closed after the Berlin wall was erected because the Berlin wall was made with the Brandenburg gate being a section of the wall. -
Crossing Points
All the crossing points to East Berlin are closed to the West Berlin Citizens. -
J.F.K. Visits West Berlin
J.F.K. visits West Berlin's town hall and gives a speech were he says "I am a Berliner" in the German language. -
Visitation
After more than two years, West Berlin citizens are allowed to visit East Berlin. -
Four Power's Agreement
The Four Allied Powers signed the the agreement which helped reestablish ties between the two parts of Germany. This improved travel, communication, and and numerous improvements for the residents. -
Ronald Reagan visits Berlin
President Ronald Reagan visits Berlin to try and urge Soviet leader Mikhail Gorbachev to tear the Berlin wall down and open the Brandenburg gate to let the people be one again. -
Hungarian Goverment
The Hungarian Government opens its borders to East Berlin refugees. -
The fall of the Berlin Wall
The head of the East German Communist Party announced that East Berlin citizens could freely cross the border to West Berlin whenever they pleased. That night people cross the wall while others gathered at the wall with hammers and picks to tear it down. -
Brandenburg Gate Opened
The Brandenburg gate is opened after the collapse of the Berlin wall with more than 100,000 people there to witness the event and rejoice in happiness. -
Reunited
Germany is finally reunited as one.
