Created in Brussels Belgium. Originally 12 different countries. Now involves 28 countries. Worldwide Peace, worldwide security. Costed 1.8 billion euros. Has rapidly changed in size and how to approach situations. -
Berlin Airlift
First crisis of the Cold War. Germany and Soviet Union blocked the airlift. The west had failed. -
Korean War
This war was fought between North and South Korea. North Korea invades South Korea. -
Sputnik
Operated under U.S.S.R control. First launched October 4th 1957. Sputnik means companion. The 2nd sputnik was launched November 3rd. -
North invades South
North Vietnam invades non communist South Vietnam. The United States joined the war. The U.S joined to help stop spreading communist. -
U-2 Incident
U-2 Incident occurred during Dwight Eisenhower presidency. Soviet Union shot down United States spy plane. The United states had to admit that they had been spying on Soviet Union for several of years. -
Berlin Wall
The Berlin Wall was to prevent contact with West Berlin and East Berlin. Was built in 1949 and demolished in 1961. East Germans fled to West Germany leaving people without homes, jobs and more. -
Cuban Missile Crisis.
Was the most dangerous two weeks in history, Almost came to a nuclear War. Called the crisis point of the Cold War. The United States were in the lead in the Missile race. -
Space Races
Space was a rivalry for U.S and U.S.S.R. On July 16. 1969 Neil Armstrong, Micheal Collins, and Edwin flew to the moon. They were i space for 8 days, 14 hrs, and 12 mins. The race started in October when Sputnik was launched. There was no proven winner of the races. U.S were the first on the moon, but U.S.S.R was first in space. -
Germany Reunited
Germany reunites. The five new federal states on it territory joined. West and East Berlin were reunited.
