On the day Mussolini was born in the small town of Dovia di Predappio, Italy. Mussolini's father was a blacksmith and a Socialist. His mother was a school teacher. They lived in a small cottage connected to the school. (Byers 272). -

Wright Brothers
In Kittyhawk, North Carolina, the Wright Brothers flew the first powered airplane. Their plane paved the way for modern travel. Their airplane is constantly being improved and modified. (Grun 457). -
Avanti
In 1904 Mussolini became the editor if the Socialist newspaper Avanti. Avanti means forward in Italian. Being the editor of the newspaper helped expand Mussolini's influence.(Biography.com Editors). -
Model "T"
In 1908 the Ford Motor Company made the Model "T". The Model "T" was an affordable car that everybody could buy. There was 15 million sold. (Grun 461). -
S.S Titanic
The S.S Titanic was built to be unsinkable. On it's maiden voyage in 1912, the S.S Titanic sank in the Atlantic Ocean. After hitting an iceberg the Titanic sank and about 1,513 people drowned. (Grun 465). -
Panama Canal
In 1914 the Panama Canal was opened. The Panama Canal made the trip from the Atlantic Ocean to the Pacific Ocean shorter and more convenient. The canal improved trade routes because you didn't have to sail around South America anymore. (Grun 467). -
Expulsion from Sociaist Party
In 1915 Mussolini was kicked out of the socialist party. Mussolini was kicked out because of his views of World War One. He viewed World War One as a way for Italy to gain world power. After getting expelled for the socialist party he enlisted in the Italian army. (Biography.com Editors). -
Fascist Party
In 1919 Mussolini created the Fascist Party. His right wing group were called the "Black Shirts" because of the black uniforms they wore. The Fascist Party terrorized their political opponents. (Biography.com Editors). -
March on Rome
In late October of 1922 the Fascist Party marched to Rome to seize power. As the Fascist walked to Rome they seized control of railroad stations and telephone exchanges. Also they destroyed socialist newspaper offices and trade union buildings. The Fascist controlled all communication from Northern Italy to Rome. (Mulvihill 14). -
Mussolini comes into Power
In1924 Mussolini became the Dictator of Italy.. While he was in power he took the title "II Duce", reduced unemployment, and made an extensive public works program. (Biography.com Editors). Mussolini wanted to be a modern Caesar and re-create the Roman Empire. (History.com Staff). -
Amelia Earhart
In 1932 Amelia Earhart became the first woman to fly across the Atlantic Ocean alone. She flew from Newfoundland to Londonderry, Ireland. Her flight took 13.5 hours. (Grun 503). -
Invasion of Ethiopia
In 1935 Mussolini lead Italy to victory over Ethiopia. Ethiopia was no match for Italy's modern tanks and airplanes. After Ethiopia was conquered it became part of the Italian Empire. (History.com Staff). -
Pact of Steel
In 1935 Germany and Italy signed a military alliance called the Pact of Steel. The pact granted Germany and Italy military aid and support with military forces."In signing the Pact of Steel, Mussolini trusted a German reassurance that there would be no major conflicts for three years." Death of Mussolini
Mussolini was executed with his mistress Claretta Petacci. Mussolini and Petacci were executed while trying to escape to Switzerland. They were caught on the 27th by the Italian Underground and executed on the 28th of April. After being shot and killed there bodies were hung on display in a Milan plaza. (Biography.com Editors).
