The Union Fire Company
Ben Franklin came up with the idea to start a firefighting club in Philadelphia. He had thought it would be go to have in Philadelphia like the one they had in Boston and wrote about it in his gazette. The Union Fire Company, organized by Franklin, was mostly made up of volunteers who helped fight fires. It was oficially formed on December 7th. -
Join or Die
Ben Franklin puts the first political cartoon ever in his gazette. Ben Franklin himself is belived to have made this cartoon himself. This cartoon depicts a snake chopped up into pieces and the coionies represanting a piece with the words, "Join or Die" on it. It made many colonists think about whether they should all join against Britain or not. -
Albany Plan of Union
Ben Franklin introduced the Albany plan of Union. The purpose was to unite the colonies under one central government. Even though that idea was thwarted by the king a similar idea was used for the Articles of Confederation that was inspired by this. -
British Parliment
In 1776, Franklin testified in the British Parliment against the Stamp Act. The Stamp Act was widely unpopular in the colonies and Franklin agreed it was unfair. He helped overturn the Stamp Act. (Not exact day or month) -
Second Continential Congress
In May 1775, Franklin returned to Philadelphia and shortly after began as a delegate in the Second Continential Congress. The Decleration of Independence and Articles of confederation both came from here. Both are very important documents in American History. -
Decleration of Indepandence
Franklin was part of a five person committe that helped draft the Decleration of Independence. On July fourth congress officially approved the decleration words. Franklin had helped write the document that freed us from Britian. -
Amerian and French Alliance
In 1778, the treaty confirmining France's alliance with America was signed. Franklin was there and signed the document confirming the alliance. This alliance was important because France would help American during the Revolutionary War. -
Ambassador
In 1779, Franklin became America's first ambassador. He was sent to France which we had newly signed our first alliance with. This was fitting because Ben Franklin had signed the alliance document. (not exact day or month) -
Treaty of Paris
The Teaty of Paris is the treaty between The Americans and the British that ended the Revolutionary war. This is the document that freed us from Britian. Not only did Franklin sign it, but he was one of the five people from Amercia Who helped negotiate the treaty. -
Constitutional Convetion
Ben Franklin was a delagate in the Constitutional Convetion. The Constitution, known as the "supreme law of the land," is the groundwork for our nation. Even though it was highly debated, Franklin supported the Constitution. It is one of the most important papers in American history, and Franklin got to sign it on september 17, 1781. -
