Ancient Romans Start Using Lead
In 7000 A.D. the ancient Romans started to smelt and use Lead. Thier main use for it was to make pipes for plumbing out of it. They could do this because of the malleability of lead. Another thing that they used lead for was in the process of making wine. It was only later on that the poisonous properties of lead were discovered. -
Lead in Gasoline
Lead was added as an ingridient of gasoline because it was the most efficient at maintaining the engine quality of your vehicle. This practice would be later banned because of the discoveries relating to the dangers of lead. -
EPA Bans Leaded Gas
In 1970 the Environmental Protection Agency of the US banned the leaded of gasoline due the recent findings relating to the poisonousness of Lead. -
Lead Voluntarily Removed From Paint
In the mid-1980's companies voluntarily removed lead from their products. They did this after seeing the amounts of lead poisoning climb even higher. In order to stop this epidemic lead was removed from paint along with many other products such as the casing for pencils.
