Treaty of Paris French and Indian War

Quarting Act
The colonists were forced to let British soldiers stay in their homes. The colonists had to house and feed them. The colonists did not get any money or rewards for housing the British and they were very angry. Video -
Townshend Act
This act established non-import agreements that quickly spread throughout the colonies. Things like lead, paint, paper, glass, and tea were taxed. It was named after Charles Townshend who was part of the British Agricultural Revolution.Video -
Boston Massacre
The Boston Massacre caused the death of five colonists. A street fight, between an angry mob of colonists and British soldiers broke out because the colonists were angry with the British soldiers. The Colonists threw rocks and snowballs at the British Soldiers and told them to leave. A British officer fired into the crowd and killed a young boy. Then the shooting began. Video -
Committees of Correspondence
Organized by 12 local governments out of the 13 colonies before the revolution. Samuel Adams organized it. He was an American statesman, political philosopher, and one of the Founding Fathers of the United States. -
Tea Act
Great Britain's Parliament imposed tax on tea. Britain released this act to enforce that they still had power over the colonies. The colonies never accepted the tax, there for their resistance lead to the Boston Tea Party. Video -
Boston Tea Party
46 tons and 342 chests were lost when the tea was thrown overboard. Sam Adams and The Sons of Liberty dressed as Native Americans and boarded British ships full of tea. It was caused by the Tea act. -
Intolerable Acts
Passed by British Parliament in 1774, as punishment for the Boston Tea Party. British made the decision to tax American colonies. They were given the name "Intolerable Acts" by American Patriots who felt they simply could not "tolerate" such unfair laws. The British passed these acts as punishment for the Boston Tea Party. -
1st Continental Congress
A meeting of the delegates from twelve of the thirteen colonies. They met at Carpenters Hall in Philadelphia, Pennsylvania. It was important because it was the first time they realized that the states were united and if they worked together they could be free. -
Battle of Lexington and Concord
This was the first battle of the American Revolution. British troops were sent to confiscate colonial weapons at Concord, Massachusetts, 20 miles from Boston. They ran into an untrained and angry Militia. The battle of Lexington and Concord was fought in Lexington Green, Massachusetts. Between the rebels and the government forces. The British won this. 2nd Continental Congress
Adopting the U.S Declaration of Independence was the most important effect. The Second Continental Congress was a convention of delegates from the 12 of these 13 colonies that formed in Philadelphia in May 1775. They met soon after the launch of the American Revolutionary War. It succeeded the First Continental Congress, which met between September and October of 1774. -
Battle of Bunker Hill
British General William Howe landed troops on the Charleston Peninsula. Even though the patriots lost, it was a big confidence booster for them. This battle made the British realize it was going to be a long, tough war.Video -
Thomas Paine's Common Sense
This pamphlet Thomas Paine wrote inspired the Colonies to fight the British, advocating independence from Great Britain. His book challenged the British government and royal monarchy. It transformed the American Revolution. -

Washington's Crossing of the Delaware
This was a surprise attack led by General George Washington, in Trenton, New Jersey. It was pointed toward the Hessian forces. It happened during the night on December 26, 1776. 1,000 Hessians were captured and only 4 Americans died. Video -
Battle of Saratoga
This battle was a turning point in the American Revolution. Their plan was to take out the Generals first because they knew the plans and where to go. The Colonists plan succeeded. The British surrendered. Video -
Battle of Yorktown
This was an important battle and also the last in the American Revolution. General Cornwallis surrendered on October 17 later that year. This battle prompted negotiations between the French and the 13 Colonies. Video -
Treaty of Paris (American Revolution)
The Continental Congress named a member of a commission to write the Treaty of Paris. It set boundaries between America and Britain. American colonies won political Independence and went to form the United States of America. America and Britain negotiated to end the American Revolution.
