later treaties were established so when this happened the Treaty of Brussels was made and was called Habsburgers this treaty did not go with the many little governments that they had. So the Spanish and Austrian Branches split and the Belgian empire was split in half. The rest of the empire went with the Austrians. This is important because this shaped Belgium, because it no longer had the supplies from Spain and they had to cope. -

The Protestants in the country rebelled against the Catholic Church the rebellion was led by William the I, the Catholic Church was not going to fall so they sent thousands of Spanish soldiers to put down the rebellion.
