Founding of Rome Part 1
“Founding of Rome” tells the legend of Romulus and Remus and how Rome was born. Once upon a time, there was a princess who was not allowed to have kids because her husband, King of war called Mars didn’t want anyone to take his seat of the king. But she had two children in her tummy. So when two babies were born, servant of the king put two kids called Romulus and Remus in a basket and floated them in Tiber River. -

Beginning of Rome

Founding of Rome Part 2
From this part, I inferred that the king was really irresponsible and mean because he put his children in the basket and just floated them in the river. They could die by drowning, coldness or hunger. But he just didn’t want to anyone to take his seat, so he put them in the river instead of taking care. I also inferred he didn’t really love his wife. If he really loved the wife, he will also love the children between his wife and took care of them. -
Founding of Rome Part 3
I think he didn’t like her that much, so he just considered about himself more than children and the wife. Then a she wolf found two kids and fed them as a mother. I inferred this wolf was really nice because the wolfs are animals that attack human and don’t help people, so I thought she had a kind heart and she thought, “They will die if I don’t take care of them.” I also inferred, she had children before, and she knew how much children are cute by her experience, so she fed them as mother. -
Founding of Rome Part 4
But then farmers found the she wolf and killed the wolf to take care of the children. One day, Romulus and Remus decided to build a city, but they fought, and finally Romulus killed Remus. I inferred that they fought a lot and finally, Romulus killed Remus because they were both children of the king of the war. They didn’t spend any time with the father, but they were related by the blood, so they have the characteristics that were similar. j -
Founding of Rome Part 5
So maybe, they liked fighting, and for Romulus, it wasn’t really difficult or sad thing to kill his only sibling, if he could be the king. Then Romulus made a city by himself and after named “Rome” from his name. Right now, we can see many symbols of Romulus and Remus drinking the milk of she wolf in Rome. -
The Etruscans Daily Life Part 1
“Daily life” explains how Etruscans entertained their life and how people were divided into different classes. Their daily life was totally different from people who were in this age, because they entertained many things. They gambled with ivory dices and played board games. They also did many sports such as wrestling, running, boxing, and horse racing. They loved dancing with wearing fancy dress, playing double flute or lyre and drawing pictures. Men and women joined the enterteinment together. -
The Etruscans Daily Life Part 2
This was rare thing in this age. From this part, I inferred that the Etruscans thought the normal life that other people has in this age, such as just eating, working and sleeping were boring and not fun. So they started doing things that are fun and enjoyable. Etruscans had social order and people were divided into three different classes. In upper class, there were nobles and priests. They spent good time and owned many slaves. They lived in a big rectangular house made by sun-dried brick. -
The Etruscans Daily Life Part 3
In middle class, there were farmers, city workers and traders. The farmers raised wheat, barley, grapes and olives. They didn’t have wealthy life, but they also didn’t have poor life. In lower class, there were many slaves, and upper class people owned them. They always worked really hard for them with no money paid. -
The Etruscans Religious Belief Part 1
The Etruscans borrowed the gods from Greeks. So their gods were similar to Greeks’ gods, and they believed in many gods and goddess. At first they worshiped the gods on the ground of stone. But after, they started building temples made by brick, wood and clay on stone foundation. From this evidence, I inferred, first they didn’t think the gods were really important, and they just borrowed the gods form Greek because other people in this age believed in gods. -
The Etruscans Religious Belief Part 2
But then, people started believing the gods with some reasons. I inferred one of the reasons was maybe, people made a wish and begged to the gods for the crops to grow. Then the crops really started growing, so they started building better place that gods can be which is temple. They believed the universe was divided several provinces, and each province had different god. They believed that they lived at the center of the universe, and they were facing south which the gods of nature lived. -
The Etruscans Religious Belief Part 3
The gods of death ruled the West, and the gods of heaven ruled the East. So they built a temple that faced to the East. They thought they were powerless and the gods were more powerful than them. So to know what the gods like, the soothsayers who predicted the future, read symbols called omens. One group of soothsayers read omens from animals’ livers. Another group studied the direction of the sound and lighting of thunder and the way birds flew. -
The Etruscans Religious Belief Part 4
I inferred the Etruscans really wanted to be the favorite of the gods and please them, because they wanted to have happy life. -
Tombs of Gold Part 1
When a noble died, a big banquet was held. In this banquet, two slaves were fought until one of them was killed. From this part, I inferred, nobles were really special, because one person always died and dedicate for the noble. People who were died were buried in catacombs that were in underground. The walls of tombs were painted colorfully and it had chairs. -
Tombs of Gold Part 2
From this evidence, I inferred that the catacombs were really important for them, because they put the tombs in underground, so they won’t break easily, and they were difficult get hurt by other people or animals. The Etruscans believed the life after death was more important than the life on the earth. The tombs were filled with the things that they owned when they were alive, such as art pictures, treasures of gold, silver, bronze and ivory. -
Tombs of Gold Part 3
This was the reason that the tombs were called “Tombs of Gold” Outside of the city was necropolis where many tombs were gathered. Some of them are still in Rome, so we can see them. I inferred that they made the tombs really tough and spent a lot of time because they made the tombs almost 3000 years ago, but we can still recognize that those are tombs. If they didn’t make the tombs really tough, storms or rains, animals or plants would break them. So I think they spent many times to make tombs. -
Etruscans and Romans Part 1 Etruscans
In 616 B.C., when Lucius Tarquinius became the first Etruscan ruler of the Rome, the Etruscans started teaching things to Latin and Romans. Etruscans taught, how to use arches when they build bridges, basic things about the sewer system and how to drain the unnecessary mud of Palatine to Latin. After, a public square called Forum built in Palatine, and this square contained a palace, government buildings, and law courts. Etruscans borrowed the alphabet from Greeks changed a little bit. -
Etruscans and Romans Part 2 Etruscans
They also taught two customs to Romans. First custom was that slaved people fight each other or fight against animals until they died, and this game was really dangerous, and it was for upper class people entertainment. From this part, I inferred that the upper class people were fierce, because they enjoyed by looking people who were trying to alive, and when animals killed slaves, they please and shout. So I think they were mean and fierce. -
Etruscans and Romans Part 3 Etruscans
Another custom was called triumph that people celebrated when Roman hero came back from the battle. They also borrowed a symbol called fasces that looked like ax, and it represents the power of person who had the symbol. Etruscans also taught Romans about religious believe such as gods and soothsayer who read the future. The Etruscans built the first temple on a hill called Capitoline that is now one of the famous hills in Rome. -
Tombs of Golds Part 4 Etruscans
They also taught how to built a city. First the soothsayers read omens and predict where the city’s boundaries should be. Next some cows pulled the plow to mark the boundaries. Each city’s made a trench in the center of the city and founders grabbed some dirt and put them in. After the soothsayers decided the main streets and principal streets. -
Tombs of Golds Part 5 Etruscans
They marked the place where two streets were met called mundus by a stone, because by doing this, they thought they could shut the space between underworlds. Etruscans were really associated to Roman civilizations. -
Etruscans and Romans Part Romans
Romans borrowed four things from Etruscans. First thing was alphabet. Etruscans borrowed the alphabet from Greeks, and the Romans borrowed the alphabet from Etruscans. Second thing was the entertainment of fighting between slaves. This was the model of the gladiator game, and men between men, men between animals, women between dwarfs and between animals fought in the funeral ceremony. This game was really dangerous, and usually people bleed, and many people and animals were died. -
Etruscans and Romans Part 2 Romans
But upper class people enjoyed this game a lot. From this part, I inferred the lower class people were treated in really bad way from upper class people, because upper class people enjoyed and pleased when the slaves were trying to survive and not to get hurt in the game. Also when slaves were killed in the game, they added new slaves as people play with toy and when it break, they just throw away and buy new one. -
Etruscans and Romans Part 3 Romans
So I think they were treated like a toy, and they had big difference between upper and lower people. Third thing was a parade called triumph. When Roman soldiers came back from the fight with victory, they did this parade to celebrate the victory. Fourth thing was some symbols. One of the symbols was fasces or a band of stick bound around an ax, and it represented the power of Roman rulers. -
Etruscans and Romans Part 4 Romans
From this part, I inferred the Etruscans liked fighting, because they taught many things about fight and power to Romans. Etruscans also taught things about religion such as soothsayers and gods with human looking. Romans built their city according to things that Etruscans taught them. Soothsayers decided where the boundaries should be by reading a symbol called omens. Next they used plow to dig some ditches to mark the boundaries. -
Etruscans and Romans Part 5 Romans
Then they dug a hole at the center of the city, and then the founders of the each city put the dirt in the hole. They also marked the corner with the stone where the two streets met called mundus to shut the space between underworlds. From all these evidences, I inferred that the Romans were religious people, because they decided the street with reading omens, and marker the mundus with the stone. -
Etruscans and Romans Part 6 Romans
. If they weren’t religious people, they didn’t care about these things. Roman civilization improved a lot by ideas from Etruscans.
