Its the costliest battle in the pacific to date.30,000 Japanese soldiers died and 4000 scared civilians, women,men and children fled to the north part of the island to try and be safe , but the Japanese soldiers said that people should kill their self instead of being taken by the Americans and whoever refused would be killed by the Japanese, over 1000 Japanese died to Japanese.
