Ulysses S. Grant
Ulysses S. Grant was the eighteenth president of the United States. Grant spent eight years in office 1869-77. Ulysses S. Grant was involved in scandals. One was the Black Friday gold speculation ring in 1869, corruption would be discoved during Grants two presidential terms. Another scandal Grant was involved in was the whisky Ring. The whisky ring raised taxes very high to help pay for the cost of fighting. -
Chester Arthur
Chester Arthur became president after the assination of Jame Garfield. Arthur commited a scandal that involved the star postal service. Arthur came into conflict with Garfields cabinet most of the members represented Republican factions that opposed him. -
Grover Cleveland
Grover Cleveland was in office from 1885-89. Cleveland was the first democrat elected after the civil war. Cleveland won the election with the Democracts and Reform Republicans "Mugwumps". The mugwumps did not like James G. Blaine. Cleveland was also the first president to leave presidency and then return for a second term four years later. -
William Mckinley
Mckinely was in office 1897-1901. During Mckinleys time as president was importants because the United States officially became a world colonial in power. American officially placed its money on the gold standard. During Mckinelys time in office, Hawaii was annexed. This was the first step towards statehood for the island territory. -
Theodore Roosevelt
President Roosevelt was in office from 1901-1909. President Roosevelt was the president following the assasination of President mckinley. President Roosevelt was the youngest president in history of the United states being 42 years old. Roosevelt was very well known for his dedication to conservation, domestic policy, and public work projects like the panama canal. During Roosevelts presidency he established 150 national forests and many more wildlife reserves. -
William Taft
Taft was president from 1909-1913. Tafts first goal as president was to get congress to lower tariffs. Taft had a hard task as president following Roosevelt. Taft was also the first president to serve as the chief justice and president of the United States. -
Woodrow Wilsom
Woodrow Wilson was in office from 1913-1921. One of the most well know things that make president wilson famous is the led the US into WW1 in1917 and also drafted the peace plan to end it. Wilson concidered himself to be a direct representative of the american people and was determined enact legislation that he felt met their needs. He called this program "The New Freedoms". -
Warren G. Harding
Warren Harding was known to be the first president to be elected with woman being able to vote. Harding favored pro-business government policies. Harding was for incresing the protective tariff. Harding also inforced imigration laws. -
Andrew Johnson
Andrew Johnson was president 1865-69. Johnson took over presidency after the assasination of Abraham Lincon. When Johnson took over presidency he continued to restore the confederate states to the union. Johnson was impeached by congress in 1868 but was not removed from office.
