Charles Darwin begins his voyage
On December 27, 1831; Charles Darwin at the age of 22 begins his voyage on the Beagles' Voyage as the captain's assistant. -
First Observation
Darwin experienced his first observations and that's when it dawned on him to write a book about the geology of the countries they visited. -
Crossing the equator
Darwin finally crosses the equator and is facing many hardships of the voyage. -
Landing upon Brazil
Darwin lands upon Brazil and explores the tropical rainforests for the first time. He uses the words " I've never experienced such intense delight" to describe the beautiful vegetation of the forest. -
Landing in Argentina
During the voyage they land upon Punta Alta, Argentina and Darwin is very intrigued by the fossils here. -
Native people in Argentina
Captain Robert Fitzroy brings three native people he had brought to England on the previous voyage. He also attempted to begin a Christian mission, but it failed to work. -
Falkland Islands
Darwin finds some fossils and interesting rocks while exploring the Falkland Islands. -
Rio Negro, Argentina
Darwin explores the fertile lowland areas of Rio Negro, Argentina known as the 'pampas'. -
Discovering Chile
During the months of January and February Darwin explores Chile. While being on the island he sees Mount Osorno erupt while on the island of Chiloe, seeing the aftermath impacted Darwin tremendously. -
Galapagos Islands
During the months of September to October;Darwin discovers many different species of birds, plants, tortoises on the Galapagos but they seem to be related to the mainland species. -
Sydney, Australia
Darwin's first feeling when entering Sydney Cove was to " congratulate myself that I was born an Englishman..." He also notices that Australia has all different types of mammals. -
Coco Islands
Darwin uses the coral reefs growing around the island to test his Theory of Atoll Formation. -
Mauritis
Darwin observed quite a bit walking around the island of Mauritius; therefore, things like plains to the north of the town are quite uncultivated, consisting of black lava covering grasses and bushes. -
Cape Town, South Africa
Darwin observes all the interesting things of Cape Town such as the number of bullock wagons, and the Table Mountain. -
South America
While exploring the jungles of Bahia and Pernambuco in South America Darwin finds interesting creatures; however, he is both homesick and seasick and he is dismayed when the Beagle makes an unscheduled detour. -
Coming Home
Darwin reached home late that night, and had a delightful trip exploring. The Beagle ship was 27m long and carried 74 people and 22 clocks
