    Darwin finds the barren destroyed but perks up when he cracks open 'primitive looking rocks' and finds fossils.

    Darwin explores Pampas with the local people of 'Guachos'.
  • Chiloe Island, Chile

    (January-February) Darwin sees Mt. Osorno erupt while on the island of Chiloe and experiences an earthquake in the woods near Valdiva. The aftermath affected him tremendously.

    (September-October) Darwin finds many species of plants, birds, tortoises unique to the Galapagos Islands but they seemed related to mainland species. He was fascinated by the tortoise and iguana.
