    Beage's Voyage

  • Ship arrival

The ship arrived at the port of Santa Cruz, Tenerife Island. The crew was held up from going ashore with there being an cholera outbreak in England.
  • 2nd Ship Arrival

The Beagle arrived at Santiago in the Cape Verde Islands, and anchored at Porto Praya. Darwin had went ashore and explored. He then made his first "discovery," - a horizontal white band of shells within a cliff face along the shoreline about forty-five feet above sea level. The cliff was known to have been under water at one time. Darwin had made observations that varied in height. This supported Lyell's theory of the world slowly changing over a great period of time.
  • Ship arrival in Salvador, Brazil

The ship arrived at Salvador, Brazil, in All Saints Bay. While there Darwin explored the tropical rain forests.
  • The ship returned from Salvador, Brazil

The Beagle returned from Salvador. Three crew members had died from a fever and as well as the ship's surgeon, Robert McCormick, resigned his position and headed back to England.
  • Woolya Cove

A mission was started at Woolya Cove just off the Beagle Channel in Tierra del Fuego.
  • Arrival at Tahiti

H.M.S. Beagle arrived at Tahiti, approximately 3,200 miles from South America. They remained at Tahiti for ten days and during this Darwin went on a two day inland expedition.
  • Southern tip of Africa

The Beagle sailed around the southern tip of Africa and anchored at the Simon's Bay near the Cape Town.
  • Arrival at Azores

The Beagle arrived at the Azores and anchored at the island of Terceira. While there Darwin explored what he had been told was an active crater.
  • End of voyage

Beagle arrived home after a voyage of four years, nine months, five days. They had docked at Falmouth, England.
