    The morning of April 6th almost 40,000 soldiers March into a Union camp. The army was led by General Albert Sidney Johnson. The Confederate attack was overwhelming to the Union troops. The attack pushed all the unprepared soldiers out of their camp.

    The Union planned to take the Stronghold of Mississippi. This stronghold was on the east bank of the Mississippi River. It was south of New Orleans.

    This was known as the biggest win for the rebels. Abraham lost all hope in the Potomac's Commander Joseph Hooker. Hooker did not want to face Lee's army after the defeat of Chancellorsville.

This caused a win for the confederate side.

    The civil war was still in a debate about who is going to win. General Grant came up with a war attack to use all parts of the army against the confederates.

    A Union soldier that goes by the name of General Sherman lead in March from Atlanta to Savannah Georgia. He brought 60,000 soldiers with him. As he marched his soldiers did not hurt anyone. They just stole food but they did burn houses and the barns of people that fought against them.

    This battle was one of the last. General Robert E. Lee surrendered his army to Union General Ulysses S. Grant. Lee abandoned the capital, he made a goal to make enforcement in North Carolina to resume fighting against the North.
