    After Fort Sumter, the government set up the United States Sanitary Commission. The goal of recruit and train nurses and to increase sanitation situations within the camps. It decreased the death rates of the Union soldiers.

    A confederate attack on a Union base. It was lost to the south and there were no casualties, beyond accidents afterwards in evac and in the rifle solute

    Virginia was unwilling to fight against the confederate states and seceded. Which was a terrible loss for the Union, it held a huge population and many industrial factories

    Considered the first bloodshed of the battle, it was a battle filled with equally unexperienced soldiers. At the end the South had won. Stonewall Jackson was named at this battle. Union lost 2,896 Confederate lost 1,982
  • New tech and weapons

    Ironclads- Metal ships that could withstand fire and canon attacks. They could also splinter wooden ships.
    Rifles-More accurate and faster loading than the previously used bayonets.
    Minie balls- Softer lead bullets that were more destructive than the previous bullets.

    The battle was viewed as a tie. It taught the generals on both sides that they need to plan ahead and send in troops before hand and build trenches and such. It also showed the confederate and union states how bloody this war could be. Union lost, 13,000 ish and Confederate lost roughly 10,000

    Referred to the seven days war. Lee's determination unnerved McClellan and he surrendered and marched to the sea. Union deaths: 5,373. Confederate deaths: 451.
  • Battle of Antietam

    McClellan took an aggressive front and attacked Lee's army besides Antietam river. Battle was the bloodest single day of the war. After losing a fourth of their troops, the south retreated. The next month Lincoln fired McClellan. Union loses, around 12,400 men. South lost around 10,320.

    A document written by Abe Lincoln. It was used as a weapon of war to end slavery. It did not apply to the confederate states that were already occupied by north troops. Or slave states that had already seceded.

    The gettysburg address was read by Abe Lincoln at the ceremony remembering Gettysburg. The Gettysburg address last no more than two minutes, but it is said to have "re-made America". It is one of the most renowned speeches given in US history.
  • Surrender at Appomattox

    Surrender at Appomattox
    By Lincolns request, the terms were generous. Lincoln allowed the confederate soldiers to leave with their side arms. After four years, recovering for the economic losses, the civil war was finally over.
  • Lincoln Assassination

    Lincoln Assassination
    Lincoln was shot in the head by John Wilks-Booth. A confederate sympathizer. He was shot while watching a show at Fords Theatre. And died the day after.
