  • Opening of the Changi Gaol

    The Changi Gaol has Officially Opened
  • Bombing of Pearl Harbour and the Invasion Beginning

    Japanese bombed Pearl Harbour, then they moved to Singapore taunting them in 4 different languages. It took 55 days to take over the whole Malayan Peninsula, and spent a week preparing the attack, a few days later Singapore fell.

    Japan has successfully taken Singapore over, gained the name Syonan-to, and the British was overthrown as Singapore’s colonial leaders.
  • People Who Marched in the Gaol

    By March, 3,000 people, mostly of European descent marched into the Gaol
  • Selarang Incident

    Four Prisoners of War were executed in front of their senior officers at Selarang Beach for trying to escape and refusing to sign a pledge to not escape. The purpose was to teach the other POW’s a lesson, and as a punishment
  • Civilians Move to Sime Road Internment Camp

    Civilians were moved to Sime Road Internment Camp. By January 1945, more than 10,000 POW’s were in the Gaol.
  • Bombing of Hiroshima

    America drops a bomb over Hiroshima, destroys ⅔ of the city and kills 66,000 people.
  • Bombing of Nagasaki

    Another bomb is dropped over Nagasaki this time, 40% of the city is destroyed, 39,000 people were killed and 25,000 people were injured
  • Japan Surrenders

    Japanese Emperor Hirohito declares surrender
  • Japan Signs Official Surrender Pledge

    Japan signs official surrender to the allied forces. It has been accepted by Gen Douglas MacArthur, the supreme allied commander, and World War II has ended.
