Birth of Chris
Chris Herren was born in Fall River Massachusetts. -
High Schol Years
Chris Entered High School, playing for the Durfee Basketball Team. He scored a total of 2,073 points throughout his high school career. -
Boston College
This was Chris's first time playing for the team after he committed to playing for them. -
Accomplishments
This was Chris's senior year in high school. Herren was named the Boston Globe and Gatorade Player of the year. He also was named to the McDonald's All-America Team. Herren was the central figure in a book about Durfee High basketball titled Fall River Dreams. -
1994-1995
Within this time period, Chris failed several drug tests for marijuana and cocaine. He also was forced to sit out because of his broken wrist. -
Bulldog
Chis joins the Fresno State Bulldog basketball team for his sophmore year in college. -
Fail Drug Test
Fails a drug test at Fresno State -
Rehab
Chris spends almost a month in rehab recovering from his addiction. He joins the Bulldogs once again -
Denver
Chris was the number 4 pick for the Denver Nuggets in the draft. -
Celtics
From 2000 to 2001 Chris played for the Boston Celtics after being traded from the Nuggets. This was a dream come true for him. -
New Opportunites, bad decisions
Chris played for many non-american teams as well. He played for the Beijin Ducks, Payak,Italy, Iran, and in Poland. He continued to use drugs daily and started to discover the true effects of painkillers and heroin. -
Effects
Chris started to purchase and use crystal meth. He was found in a ditch in Fall River, MA overdosed on Heroin for the second time. His drug problem was getting out of hand, and his family was being pulled down with him. -
Just gets worse and worse
Chris was found in a dunkin donuts drive through in Portsmouth, Rhode Island overdosed on Heroin. This is when he was charged with the possession and being under the influence of drugs. -
Finally CLEAN!
This was the first day Chris was clean of drugs and alcohol. Since then he has never relapsed. -
Hoops Dreams
Chris creates Hoops Dreams which is a basketball organization where he coaches kids of all ages on the game of basketball. -
Basketball Junkie
With the help of Bill Reynolds Chris published his book Basketball Junkie A Memoir which is a story about his life on and off the basketball court. He has inspired many to be clean and choose the right path to follow.
