Ballet Russe takes a toll in the ballet community
With the death of Serge Diaghilev in his home town:Venice, Italy at 9PM. This changes the ballet world at the time. Leaving his fellow dancers little to no work to continue with in his path. -
Resurrection starts to change
Wasily de Basil & Rene Blum gave Ballet Russe a new name: Ballet Russe de Monte-Carlo. This then allowed and help Diaghliev's former friend/choregrapher, Geoge Balanchie, become a dancing master at the brand new Ballet Russe. -
First performance
Critics said this act "Ballet Russ de Monte-Carlo" was the authentic air to Diaghilev’s Ballet Russe. -
The Massine Era of ballet
Created at the Ballet Russe de Monte-Carlo which was held in London. -
Heading to the Americas
Had sett sail for the U.S, where Sol Hurok booked their first American Tour. Sol Hurok was the most powerful theatrical promoter in the States. By this point it had laready been about 20 years since Diaghilev’s Ballet Russe sailed to America. -
The start of ballet in a new place
By 1934 they had performed for 3 million people but before then, a majority of the American population still weren't sure what ballet was yet. -
The Split
Wasily de Basil and Rene Blum fought over certain aspects of their company which led to Blim leaving. After this Massine and Basil had legal issues about the company which this then led into, two different companies. Both companies made their debut in London. -
War was declared
Britain and France had declared war upon Germany in WW II. This shocked many, and brought fear onto the Russians due to them not having the right papers to be able to leave the country. Eventually both companies were able to get a ride back America in peace. -
Broadway welcomes Ballet
Ballet made its way into broadway and was then choreographed by George Balanchine. Once he had left the Ballet Russe he started making his way into film and around broadway. -
The Final Dance
Brasil and Hurok trid creating another tour to America but failed. All the dancers at the time had come across much better opportunities. Also Brasil tried hiring new dancers, but they weren't the same as his old ones, which did some damage to his company. November was their last performance.
