    Parkers Claim Fire

    More InformationContinuing on with the Major fires around the area the next one broke out on the Parker's Claim which was located North of Gordon (10kms West of Ballan). The assumed cause was from men carting grain from a local farm. It was Eventually pulled up on the Daylesford Road as Night fell on the Wednesday.
  • Mr Blake Purchases a Small Portable Fire Engine

    In the time leading up to this date, Mr Blake purchased a Small Portable Fire Engine of which he has attached some hose. He made it available to anyone in town who required it. He suggested that it may not be a bad idea to organise a small brigade.
  • Large Sawmill Fire

    A Large Sawmill was destroyed by fire in the early hours as reports state the fire was seen burning through the roof at 0400hours. Owned by Mr. E. Blake, the fire destroyed timber and the insured Mill and Machinery.
  • Money to be collected for Proposed Brigade

    Leading up to this time, The Secretary for the Proposed Fire Brigade said they would need to raise 23pounds to go with the councils 30pounds to allow the brigade to purchase a reel and hoses.
  • Funds being Raised for Brigade

    An open air concert, with fireworks, bicycle procession, and other attractions, was held in the local show grounds. This attraction was devised to assist the funds of the local Fire Brigade. This Event turned out to be one of the greatest successes yet.
  • Fire Brigade Takes Form

    Thanks to the energetic spirits of a few towns men and their praiseworthy work has resulted in the possession of a hose reel and necessary apparatus at a cost of something over 35pounds. The erection of a neat little building at Cousens Central Corner drew another 22pounds 10. Mr Wm. Horder (The Brigade Captain) was reminded that each of his visits leaves a discoloured water-a blood red-caused by stirring up sediment in the main pipes.
  • Torchlight Procession and Open Air Concert Fundraiser

    This event proved to be another huge success for a small community and proving to be of benefit financially. All proceeds going to the Fire brigade
  • Bushfire on Ingliston Road

    A BUSH FIRE started on Monday on the Ingliston road not far distant from Mr. D. Whelan's. At about 10 o'clock word came into the township that the grass in the locality was all ablaze. Before help could arrive from here the boisterous north-westerly wind had fanned it into devastating flame, which quickly crossed through Whelan's, Mel. Smith's, D. Kerins', L. Grant's, J. O. Inglis', and down into Mogg's Yaloak Vale. It is at present understood that Mr. Inglis is the heaviest loser in 1,000 acres
  • Brigade to come under the CFBB

    A deputation, consisting of LieutenantFix this text Fraser and Fireman Royce, waited on the Council, and spoke in support of a letter from the Secretary of the Country Fire Brigades' Board stating that the Ballan Shire Council's contribution under the Board would probably be from £6 to £7 -After some discussion, the Council unanimously decided to apply that the Ballan Volunteer Fire Brigade be brought under the control of the Country Fire Brigades' Board.
  • Council Agrees to Buy 30 Beaters

    Due to the good work of the Brigade, the council agreed to purchase 30 beaters for use in the town.
