3 Weeks After Conception
Three weeks after conception, a tube is created by the neural groove. This action creates three main parts of the brain. Hindbrain, midbrain, forebrain have now started there growth. Also three weeks after conception the Embryo is formed. https://my.clevelandclinic.org/health/articles/7247-fetal-development-stages-of-growth -
7 weeks after conception
The first Neurons and synapses start to develop. This first takes place in the spinal cord. This is the act of Neurogenesis (birth of neurons). http://www.urbanchildinstitute.org/why-0-3/baby-and-brain#:~:text=The%20tube%20gradually%20closes%20as,the%20brain%20and%20spinal%20cord.&text=About%20seven%20weeks%20after%20conception,develop%20in%20the%20spinal%20cord. -
9 weeks after conception
Nine weeks after conception migration starts to take place. This is when neurons move to their "correct" or "final" location. -
Conception
This is when the sperm meets the egg and the development of the brain/body begins. https://www.ncbi.nlm.nih.gov/books/NBK234146/#:~:text=The%20human%20brain%20develops%20from,forebrain%E2%80%94begin%20to%20take%20form. -
Creation of Synapses
As the neurons find there correct destinations, synapses are created inside the brain. These basically form a bridge for cells to connect to one another. https://extension.umaine.edu/publications/4356e/#:~:text=In%20the%20brain%2C%20the%20neurons,it's%20about%2015%2C000%20per%20neuron. -
12 - 14 weeks after conception (Embro)
15 million nerve cells are being created each hour. This is the beginning of perception. -
9 Months after conception
The brain has built itself up to be one quarter of the size of an adult brain. The baby is ready to come out the womb. -
One year after conception
The baby is now born and slowly over the months builds its memory and perception. This is due to the development of the hippocampus. https://www.ncbi.nlm.nih.gov/pmc/articles/PMC7089830/#:~:text=In%20typically%20developing%20children%2C%20episodic,late%20infancy%20and%20early%20childhood. -
Two years after conception
Two years after conception is when pruning starts to take place in the brain. This is when synaptic gaps are removed that are no longer needed.
