Babe Ruth was born in his grandfather's house in Baltimore. He was born in a very poor family. His father had held on an assortment of jobs and ended up as an owner of a salon. His mother was constantly ill. Babe once said "I hardly knew my parents". George grew up without much parental supervision. He had frequent run-ins with the police. He admited that he was a bad kid. -
Babe Ruth started going to St. Mary's
George refused to go to school and he was considered "incorrigible". His father decided to send him to St. Mary's. It was an industrial school for boys, an institution for homeless, impoverished, or deliquent boys that was run by a Roman Catholic group. -

It wasn't long after Ruth joined the Orioles before he showed his talent. The Orioles won against the Philidelphia Athletics. After returning from that victory, George found out his name got printed as "Babe" Ruth all over the newspapers. He was first called that by his teamates because of his face and young age. Later on, people called him that with respect rather than a joke. -

Someone brought the owner and manager of the Baltimore Orioles Chris Dunn to St. Mary's on one cold Feburary night. Dunn discovered Babe Ruth's talent and signed him up for the Orioles. -

Jack Dunn sold Ruth's contract along with two other players to the Boston Red Sox to avoid bankruptcy. His manager, Bill Carrigan, used Ruth as pitcher during a game against the Cleveland Indians the day he arrived. Babe Ruth didn't play well when he first arrived at the Red Sox. The team decided to send Ruth off to their farm team, the Providence Grays in the International League. The team was managed by Wild Bill Donovan who used Ruth as often as he could when Ruth arrived. As the season drew to a finale, Donovan used Ruth alot. Babe won the International League Title for the Grays. After winning the title, the Red Sox recalled him back on the team. -

Babe and Helen got married at St. Paul's Catholic Church. They had known each other for less than three months. He was 20 and she was 17. -

Babe Ruth got into a fight with umpire Brick Owens in a game. He complained about the umpire not being fair and threatened to punch the umpire in the face. As a result, he got ejected from the game. Babe could go wild at times when he played baseball. -

Babe Ruth had been sold to the Yankees because Red Sox owner Harry Frazee was having financial problems. He was sold for $100,000 and a personal loan of $300,000 for Frazee. To secure the loan, the Red Sox owner put up Fenway Park. -

Babe apologized to Huggins and learned his lesson
Babe wasn't proud of his behavior, but he learned to correct himself. Babe apologized to Huggins and the whole team for his act. He said he would straighten himself. During the end of the 1926 season, Huggins said "Babe, I admire a man who could win over a lot of tough opponents, but I admire a man who could win over himself". Babe had the best years in his career in the following few years. -
Babe had the best MLB season with the Yankees
The 1927season was Babe Ruth's best season in his career. Babe Ruth set a record of 60 home runs in one season. He had 165 RBIs and scored 158. The Yankees won the pennant by 19 games and swept the World Series from the Pitsburgh Pirates 4-0. -
Helen died in 1929
Babe's wife Helen Woodford died in a house fire in Watertown. Babe broke down and cried when he found out the news. Even though they had problems with their marriage, mainly because Babe Ruth spent time with other women, he still had affection for Helen. -

Babe married Claire Hodgson three months after Helen's death. Babe's daughter and Claire's daughter from previous relationships grew up as legally sisters. -

In 1934, thirty-nine year old Babe Ruth wanted to become manager because he realized he was at the end of his career. He requested to become manager multiple times, however, Jacob Ruppert refused to extend him the offer. -

Babe Ruth was overweight and too old to play baseball. He left the team after an arguement with the owner. The Boston Braves' owner recruited Babe and Babe played terribly. He was batting at .200 and his batting worsened as the season went on. He had a miserable ending of his baseball career. -

On June 13, 1948, the twenty-fifth anniversary of Yankee Stadium, "The House That Ruth Built", was celebrated. Babe Ruth came in his uniform using a bat for a cane. He recieved alot of cheers and applause. -
Babe Ruth died
Babe Ruth died on August 16, 1948. He is the best player in the history of baseball. He is a person with big acheivments and also some flaws. He lived his life big. He once said: "I swing as hard as I can, and I try to swing right through the ball. The harder you grip the bat, the more you can swing it through the ball and the farther the ball will go. I swing big, with everything I've got. I hit big or I miss big. I like to live as big as I can."
