Cortes Arrives
cortes conquered the aztecs. in 1518 cortes commanded his own expedition to mexico but it was cancelled. cortes ignored the order and set sail for mexico anyways with more than 500 men and 11 ships that fall. they arrived in february 1519. -

Fall of Tenochtitlan
the aztecs were destroyed and they surrendered on august 13, 1521. Cortes demanded the return of gold lost. after being tortured they finally surrendered and confessed to dumping all the gold and jewels into the lake. -

The Fall of the Empire
Invaders led by the Spanish conquistador Hernan Cortes overthrew the Aztecs by force and captured Tenochtitlan in 1521, bringing an end to Mesoamerica's last great native civilization.
