    David Bushnell's made the first functioning submarine in 1776 called the "Turtle". It was a one man vessel and it worked by admitting water into the hull and surfaced by pumping it out by hand." It fought in the American revolution war and was used in the navy.
  • The Cotton Gin

    The Cotton Gin
    The Cotton Gin was invented in 1794 and made by Eli Whitney. "Whitney's cotton gin was a machine that separated cotton fibers from seeds, which was a profitable new technology for American agriculture".
    The cotton gin had a major factor of the economy and social events that ended up leading to the civil war.

    In 1801 Trevithick created a steam-powered road vehicle. It was called the "Puffing Devil" because steam was buffed into the air. It was a high-pressure steam engine that moved pistons instead of lower power engines which didn't have enough drive and power. It was destroyed because it went into flames from overheating. It helped with the military.

    In 1806 the coffee pot was made by Benjamin Thompson. It had a metallic sleeve that helped to strain all of the grounds to make it more enjoyable. He said to had made it for the Bavarian army, where it helped improve their diets.

    In 1807 the Steamboat was made by Robert Fulton. Robert made the first commercially successful steamboat, but John Fitch was actually the inventor of America's first steamboat in 1787. The steamboat was called the "Clermont" and had an average speed of 5MPH.

    In 1817 the construction of the Erie Canal began. It was a 363 mile canal that connect the Hudson River with Lake Erie (Great Lakes to New York City). It was the longest artificial waterway and the greatest public works project in North America. "The canal put New York on the map as the Empire State—the leader in population, industry, and economic strength."

    In 1833 the Sewing Machine was made by Walter Hunt. It was the first "lock-stitch sewing machine", but he failed to patent it. It was the first time a machine had mimicked a hand stitch.

    In 1842 Anesthesia was used in medical procedures by Dr. Crawford Williamson Long. "4 years before Dr's public demonstration. He has used it on several minor surgery cases over the next few years. He did not publicize his technique until others had done so." He removed a tumor from a patients neck but wouldn't publicly reveal his discovery until 1849.

    In 1844 the first Telegraph was made by Samuel F.B. Morse. It had demonstrated his telegraph by "sending a message to Baltimore from the chambers of the Supreme Court in Washington, DC. The message, "What hath God wrought?,"" His invention marked the beginning of a new era in communication.

    In 1859 the first Oil Well was in Pennsylvania. Edwin Drake drilled the worlds first Oil well that had a depth of 69.5 ft. Oil was used and collected for fuel, lubricant, and medically to treat rheumatism and sprains.
