The Thirty Year War
The Protestants in Bohemia revolt against the Catholic Habsburg emperor. This started the Thirty Year War. One of the most destructive conflicts in human history, it resulted in eight million fatalities not only from military engagements but also from violence, famine, and plague. The Peace of Westphalia ends the Thirty Year War and the Habsburgs declared Roman Catholic as the official language. -

The War of Spanish Succession started between Austria and France. Austria Won the War. They got Belgium and Spain's land in Italy. -

Austrian Succession
During this war, there were countries doing things in their own interest. The original conflict was over who would take the Austrian throne. the fight that ensued involved most of the European powers of the mid-18th century who all fought for their own, personal interests. -
Austro-Prussian War
The Austro-Prussian War was between Prussia on the one side and Austria. Prussian won the war in seven weeks. When they won, Austria was excluded from Germany. -
Beginning of WWI
Archduke Franz Ferdinand was the heir to the Austrian throne. He was assassinated which caused WWI. Austria joined Germany in fighting the allies. -
End of WWI
The First World War officially ended for Austria on November 3, 1918, when the defeated army signed the Armistice of Villa Giusti at Padua following the Battle of Vittorio Veneto. Technically this applied to Austria-Hungary, but Hungary had withdrawn from the conflict on 31 October 1918, and most other states within the empire, such as Czechoslovakia and the South Slavs, had also done so. -
Germany
The Anschluss (union): Austria incorporated into Germany by Hitler. Schuschnigg imprisoned. Austria now called the Ostmark (Eastern March). -
