    Australia's Davis Cup haul

    Australia's Harry Hopman guided Australia to 15 of 18 titles between 1950 and 1967 going down as the most dominant era of any country in Davis Cup history.

    St George Dragons Dominance

    Between 1956 and 1966 St George Dragons took out 11 straight NSWRL premiership titles making it the longest premiership wins straight in Rugby League history. This tremendous era also includes 1959 when St George Went through the season underfeated. This 11 straight premierships is now referred to as "never before and never again".
  • The Melbourne Olympics

    The Melbourne Olympics
    The Melbourne Olympics was the first olympics held in the southern hemisphere. The equestrian events were held in Stockholm making it the 2nd time that an olympic games was held in two different countries. Australia's team remains as one of the most successful teams to compete at an olympic games under the Australian Flag taking out 35 medals including 13 gold.

    Rod Laver Grand Slam success
    Rod Laver became the 2nd man intones History to complete a Grand Slam also repeating the fete in 1969, winning the Australian Open, French Open, Wimbledon and US Open in a single calendar year. Rod Laver was ranked World No1 between 1964 to 1970.

    Australia FIFA World Cup
    For the first time in Australia's Football career Australia qualified for the 1974 FIFA world Cup. The playing squad included Harry Williams who was the first Australian Aboriginal to play For Australia at an international level. This was to be the only time Australia qualified for The World Cup in 3 decades.

    Australian Rules State of Origin
    The First AFL State of Origin was played at Subiaco Oval. WA cruised to victory, supported by a patriotic WA crowd. Western Australia’s Barry Cable, who played in the VFL for North Melbourne, was adjudged best on ground. Positive media reaction to the game and even the approval of the VFL showed that State of Origin was a success.

    First Rugby League State of Origin
    The First Game of State of Origin was played in 1980 between The Queensland Maroons and The New South Wales Blues. The First title in State of Origin was won by NSW in the first two games. The First Match was played at Lang Park at Brisbane and was won 35-3 by NSW in front of a crowd of 25,000.

    1982 Commonwealth Games
    The 1982 Commonwealth Games was played at Brisbane in Queensland on the main stadium of QEII stadium. The mascot selected to represent Australia was Matilda the Kangaroo Mascot. The total number of countries participating was 46 consisting of 1,583 athletes all together. Australia topped the medal tally taking home 107 medals together consisting on 39 gold, 39 silver and 29 bronze.

    Rugby Union Success
    In 1995, Rugby Union became professional in Australia following an agreement between SANZAR countries and Rupert Murdoch regarding pay television rights for the game. Australia won two world cups in the 90s, the 1991 Rugby World Cup defeating England in the final, and the 1999 Rugby World Cup defeating France in the final.

    Rugby League in the 90s was dominated by structural problems which caused the Super League War. Following the success of interstate expansion clubs and the financial struggles of Sydney clubs in the 80s, The Bradley Report in 1992 outlined a reduction of Sydney clubs and restructure of the game as a 14 club Super League.

    Sydney Olympic Games
    Sydney hosted the 2000 Summer Olympic Games and was the 2nd time a Summer Olympic Games were hosted in Australia. The cost of the event exceeded $6.6 billion. Australia ended up placing 4th on the medal tally with 58 medals, 26 of them being golds. In a moment of nation pride Kathy Freeman took out the 400m final, also Ian Thorpe took out 3 gold and 2 silvers. There was 199 nations participating and all together 10,651 athletes participating.
  • Steven Bradbury

    Steven Bradbury
    Steven Bradbury is well known for his most unlikely gold medal win in the Short track 1000m event in ice skating at the 2002 Salt Lake City Winter Olympics. Bradbury struck luck 2 times to get into the finals. In his final he choose to stay behind everyone and wait for a stack and was lucky enough for that to happen and won the gold medal. Steven was the first person in the Southern Hemisphere to win an event in the Winter Olympics.

    Wild Oats XI

    The Annual Sydney to Hobart Yacht race that starts on boxing day every year was Won by the Wild Oats XI team 4 straight years in a row. In 2007 they equalled the record of winning the race for three straight years and in 2008 they became the first team ever to win the prestigous race four years in a row. With around 100 boats competing in the race it is almost impossible for the success to ever happen again.

    Black Caviar

    Black Caviar the most famous race horse to ever step foot on the horse racing track. Black Caviar went through her racing career with 25 wins and being undefeated for her whole racing career. Black Caviar was crowned the WTRR World Champion Sprinter in 2010, 2011, 2012 and 2013 all under the trainer Peter Moody. On the 17 April 2013 it was announced that Black Caviar would retire from racing.
  • 2015 Asian Cup

    2015 Asian Cup
    For the first time in Australia's Football career Australia won the 2015 Asian Cup in Australia against South Korea in extra time of the final 2-1. The Final was played at ANZ Stadium in Sydney in from of 76,385 fans. The Asian Cup was played by 16 different nations all under one confederartion. The best player was awardered to Massimo Luongo.
