The Eureka Stockade 1854
The Eureka was a 20 minute battle between miners and government soldiers. About 30 miners and 5 soldiers died and a person named Peter Lalor was badly wounded. The Eureka Stockade occurred by a disagreement over what gold miners felt were unfair laws of their work by the government. After the Eureka Stockade, Governor Hotham abolished the
miners licence and replaced it with something called the "Miner's Right" and the fee cost £1 a year. -
